Abstract
In the performances of 38 cesarean section operations and one hysterotomy, rapid and powerful uterine contraction was caused by intramyometrial injection of prostaglandin F2¥á(PGF2¥á). The method of use was injection of 2,000¥ìg. of PGF2¥á mixed with 5cc. Of physiologic saline solution around the incision site and the uterine fundus as soon as removal of placenta manually. The response of uterine contraction first appeared within few minutes after injection of PGF2¥á and the effective uterine contraction lasted several hours. So, the amount of blood loss through the operation using PGF2¥á was appreciably below the amount of blood loss using oxytocin(P<0.001). The recognized side effect of PGF2¥á under this investigation was only slight and transient hypertension. The exact causes of why other well documented side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, flushing of face, headache, chest discomfortness, and skin erruptions were not appreciated were unknown but it might be guessed that the subjective symptoms were suppressed by the general anesthesia. So, the utilization of PGF2¥á for the control of hemorrhage during the cesarean section operation is regarded as useful and safe method. But the superiority and safeguard of PGF2¥á as the uterine contractor will be further investigated.
